Life at Tahawus

All ages. All levels. All in.

From kids catching their first fish to families exploring the High Peaks, we are a multi-generational community where the outdoors are our shared classroom.

A year-round sanctuary

Spring & Summer

The Lakes. Three private lakes for fishing, paddling, and swimming. Whether you’re on the water or on the dock, the warmer months here are quiet, clear, and unplugged.

Winter

The Backcountry. When the snow falls, the club becomes a sanctuary for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. A true winter retreat for those who love the cold.

Fall

The Canopy. With 6,700 acres of private and leased forest, the foliage is a backdrop to every adventure. Experience the peak of Adirondack autumn at Tahawus.

our Home in the High Peaks

Experience the rustic charm and hospitable spirit of an authentic Adirondack Great Camp.

The Clubhouse The historic Clubhouse is our social center. It features 12 guest rooms and common spaces designed for relaxing after a day in the woods. Our caretakers, Joel and Kathy, run the kitchen and provide meals for the membership, so you can focus on the trails rather than the cooking.

The Cottages Beyond the main house, 21 private member cottages are tucked into the woods. Several of these cabins are available for rental, offering a quiet, self-contained retreat for families. Whether you’re by the fire in the Clubhouse or waking up in a lakeside cabin, you are part of a 150-year tradition of life in the High Peaks.

A Working Community

Tahawus is maintained by the people who love it. We believe in being active participants in our landscape, not just observers. There is a specific kind of satisfaction in spending a morning clearing a trail or fixing a bridge, knowing it makes the evening toast on the porch that much more earned.
